What is the National Buyer/Seller Forum?

Building on the foundation of previous NBSF's, the 2010 edition of the National Buyer/Seller Forum will focus on the new realities of the global heavy oil and oil sands market after the global economic financial meltdown. The Forum remains Canada’s premier supply chain development conference.  In 2010, the National Buyer/Seller Forum will reflect on the theme “The Maturing of the Oil Sands”. We promise to educate delegates with current knowledge of the oilsands supply chain strategy which matches the current economic reality.

Forty-five years have passed since the start of the first oil sands project.  There is no longer talk of how the bitumen can be extracted. The focus has shifted to the redrawing of the economics of the oil sands, the development of new environmental and process technologies and the evolution of supply chain relationships between buyers and sellers.

In keeping with its role as the world’s gateway to the oil sands supply networks, the National Buyer/Seller Forum is once again providing expanded educational and awareness of the changing face of the oil sands supply chain to its delegates. Not only featuring immediate opportunities in Alberta’s heavy oil and oil sands industry, NBSF 2010 continues to be your source for industry networking, market intelligence and business opportunities.

With billions of dollars in major projects announced, underway or recently completed in Alberta, even with many major projects in the oil sands delayed, there still are countless long-term opportunities for industrial suppliers, both in Alberta and across Canada, in Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO) and in the supply chain associated with the implementation of new environmental and energy efficient technologies. And Alberta is remains the Canadian gateway to procurement and supply opportunities in the global heavy oil industry.

Markets move both downward and now upward, project timelines change and industry plans change, but projects still get built. From the heady oil and gas markets of 2005 to 2008, Alberta’s heavy oil and oil sands industries are experiencing a period of moderate growth. The market place is adjusting to a new reality of reduced costs and tight fiscal restraints, finding a new level of sustainability. Meanwhile opportunities still exist, plants in operation have estimated MRO needs of $15B per year.  Expansion projects and new projects are estimated at an average of $10B for decades in the future. Now is the time to position yourself for the new economic reality. There is and will be a long-term demand for goods and services that will retrofit and improve the design of the oilsands industry in Alberta.

The global market for heavy oil, oil sands, and conventional oil and gas is changing, and Alberta and the industry players are responding to these signals. Companies will still expand, and the sharp ones will create success from even the most challenging market conditions.

That’s where the National Buyer/Seller Forum comes in. This dynamic event showcases the best practices for business development and procurement for the world heavy oil and oil sands industry, and highlights industrial procurement opportunities and solutions.

In 2010, the National Buyer/Seller Forum is the place to be for companies interested in the global heavy oil industry. Join us to learn from the leading industry players about finding success and creating value in a challenging market.
